Bio

Pasha Shapiro started his career while attending the St Petersburg Academy of Art and Design, the most prestigious design school in Russia. While there, he worked as art director of broadcast design at a national TV station under the supervision of acclaimed film director Igor Maslennikov.

In 1995 and 1996, Pasha and classmate Ernst Weber collaborated on several motion design projects, including film work for Aleksei Balabanov, Igor Maslennikov, Maksim Pezhemsky and other Russian film directors. Pasha received several awards and nominations for broadcast motion design, including a GRAPHICON Viewers’ Choice Award in 1995 and Telegraph Jury Prize in 1996.

With a Master’s Degree in Information Design in hand, Pasha moved to the United States, where he collaborated with Ernst Weber to create the music video “Survivors” for the Pet Shop Boys. A couple of dotcom adventures later, he broke onto the advertising scene, and has created campaigns and websites for global brands including Sun Microsystems, adidas and Seagate. He’s currently an Art Director at Carat in San Francisco.

In May 2008, animated short “Unpredictable Behaviour” —  what Pasha created in collaboration with Ernst Weber — was honored and premièred at festival de Cannes (France) as part of Cannes' short film corner program. “Unpredictable Behaviour” was also nominated for best short by Anima Mundi animation festival (Brazil). Among other honors: “Best of Prix Ars Electronica 2008” (Austria), Official selection at a number of European and North American festivals.
